We're helping READ INTERNATIONAL

Image READ Book Project Plymouth is a project run by student volunteers which collects disused textbooks from schools in the south west and redistributes them to schools in Tanzania, any books that can’t be sent to Tanzania are sold online raising money towards shipping costs, or are recycled. As one of READ International’s 22 Book Projects located in universities across the UK READ Book Project Plymouth will be aiming to send 25,000 books to Tanzania this July. READ International has already successfully delivered over 564,000 textbooks to Tanzania. Quickstore Plymouth has given READ Book Project Plymouth storage for the thousands of textbooks they aim to collect over this academic year without charge. Storage is vital for the project to function as all the books need to be stored and then sorted to ensure only the most relevant quality books are sent on their journey to Africa. Without free storage the project wouldn’t work as the student volunteers just can’t store that many books in their bedrooms. READ International’s unique student-led approach means each book costs an average of just 50 pence to collect, sort, ship and deliver end-to-end. All the money raised by the project is used to cover the costs of sending the books to Tanzania and with Quickstore Plymouth’s support it means we can achieve our mission to improve access to education across the world and increase youth participation in the global community. Hon Margaret Sitta MP, Minister for Education (Tz) said: “This is one of the most effective ways to alleviate poverty in Africa.
